So if you know me at all, you know I love to take pictures. And if you know me really well, you know I have an awesome husband. So, 2.5 years ago when my awesome husband bought me a fantastic DSLR camera (Sony a700) I thought that at some point I'd love to take a photography class. Well, this has never happened and here I am 2.5 years later, constantly thinking- I have got to learn how to really use this thing! My camera is nice enough that I can get great pics that I'm happy with, just on the auto setting, but I know I am only using a smidgen of what it is capable of doing. So, I have decided I am determined to really learn what I am doing. So far what I have learned is- there is A LOT to learn! I am hoping to take some classes or work shops at some point, but for now, with baby in tow, I have bought a couple of books to read to start with and I know a lot of learning will be trial and error and just getting lots of practice. I have quite a few friends who do photography, some professionally and some just as a hobby, so hopefully I can get some wisdom and expertise from them too. (You all know who you are!)
Obviously I take pics of my own kids all the time, but these past few weeks I've been able to practice some portraits on some other cuties as well. My first practice session, my cute nephews, Harrison and Dallin. Here are a few of my favorites.
This one I was just playing around with some editing, but I really liked this coloring. What do you think?
Tell me what you think! Cuteness of boys is obvious, right. So what do you think of the pics? I'd love any comments, suggestions or critiques.

Two things off the top of my head: I love the way the boys' heads are separated from the background with light. It looks like you used the available light as a natural hair light. Love it.
Something to work on is sharpening. Learn how to use the focusing features built in to your camera. Learn the different options. In most cases you'll want the main focus to be the face, especially the eye(s). (I mostly use "back button focus", but I'm not sure your camera does that.) As long as the face is clear, most other problems can be fixed with editing. :)
I'm excited to see more practice pictures of your adorable kids! I loved taking their pictures.
so fun! i love the light and bokeh on the 2nd picture and the natural color you catch with your camera is my favorite. :)
